The development of the F5 was all about… speed. The highlights were an improved AF with now 5 focus points (the F4 has only 1), the new “3D Color Matrix Metering” system, a new durable shutter with built-in self diagnostics, two LCD screens (for the first time in a Nikon pro camera), interchangeable viewfinders (for the last time in a Nikon pro camera) and custom settings for 24 functions. The F5 was – consequently – available only with the built-in 8 frame per second motor drive. And: the F5’s game-changing design shaped the look & feel of the Nikon cameras until today.
The F5 was manufactured from October 1996 until 2004.
I purchased the pictured camera at a camera store in Biel, Switzerland, in August 2005.
Shown with a matching AF 50mm/1.4 lens.
