It started with a Nikon FM, back then in 1979. A long time ago. I was 14, discovered photography, and wanted to have my own camera. A Nikon, of course… To fulfill this big desire, I went working at a local watch factory (today it’s the famous Swatch-Group) (yes, I’m Swiss…) during my school hoildays, mounting any tiny parts in any clock units. One of the most boring things I’ve ever done in my life, but unpacking the brand new FM box… you know what I mean.

My other big love is music, I did a lot of concert photography at this time (this was allowed in the late 70ties / early 80ties – unbelieveable today, isn’t it). At the right, you see a picture of Dire Straits at the Hallenstadion Zurich / Switzerland, June 1981, made with the FM and an old, borrowed 180mm/2.8 lens on Kodachrome. I was sweet sixteen 🙂

Because it wasn’t always that easy to manage the changing light conditions of the growing light shows with the all manual FM, I aimed for a camera with aperture priority autoexposure. The FE was too expensive for me at that time, so I bought a Contax 137 in August 1981, a wonderful camera. I used it until 1995, when my AF era begun with a F90X, but… the far more interesting machine was a FE-2, spotted a few weeks later in an used cameras window. That was the point of no return, ended up some twenty years later with this website of my growing Nikon manual focus camera collection.

One day, mybe, I’ll have them all, but… the journey is the reward. Cheers.

The equipment pictured on this website is my own property. I have made all pictures with my D700 and a 50mm/1.4G lens (except the viewfinder pictures, they were made with a… uhh, iPhone5). Please respect my copyright.
