Nikon FE

Introduced 1978 eleven months after the FM. Even though a new camera, the FE took over some of the core elements of the Nikkormat EL series: manual exposure control or aperture-priority autoexposure, the top layout and the viewfinder with the match-needle system (instead of the FM’s LEDs).

Like the FM the body is made of rugged but lightweight Duralumin, but instead of the FM’s titanium bladed shutter it has got a metal bladed shutter with a stepless speed range of 8 (!) to 1/1000 second plus the “M90” mechanical shutter speed of 1/90 which operates without batteries.

The FE was manufactured from April 1978 to 1983.

I purchased the pictured camera from a private owner in Spreitenbach / Switzerland, in December 2013.
Shown with a matching xxmm/xx AI lens.
