Nikon and the consumer market… not a real success story in the beginning of the 60ties. The Nikkorex F produced by Mamiya was too far away from the SLR flagship Nikon F. In the mid-60ties, the demand for a more affordable but high quality Nikon camera increased. Nikon answered with the Nikkormat branded FT/FS series, a basic mechanical SLR with a fixed pentaprism.
The FT has a built-in TTL exposure meter, an additional meter window on the top plate, a metal-bladed/vertical travelling focal plane shutter with a speed range from 1 to 1/1000 s, a shutter speed ring concentric with the lens mount and works without any battery (only required for the meter).
Manufactured from July 1965 to August 1967, sold as Nikomat in Japan.
I purchased the pictured camera from a private owner in Switzerland in January 2014.
Shown with a matching 50mm/2.0 lens.
