In 1977, Nikon introduced the new Automatic Indexing (AI) feature, transmitting the current aperture setting of the lens to the camera. The Nikkormat FT3 was along with the F2A & F2AS the first Nikon equipped with AI, otherwise it was essentially identical to the FT2.
The camera was manufactured a short period from March 1977 until the end of 1979 (sold as Nikomat in Japan) replaced by a smaller and more lightweight generation of Nikons, the FM & FE.
I purchased the pictured model at a camera store in Vienna February 2014.
Shown with a matching 50mm/2 AI lens.
